Pomace irrigator
Pumping over by irrigating the pomace is a technique commonly used in winemaking to extract polyphenolic compounds from the grapes. This method involves evenly spraying the cap of marc using a rotating irrigator, connected to a pump.
The irrigator, often made of stainless steel, disperses the must over the entire surface of the marc to avoid preferential circuits and ensure even extraction. Some models are automated and programmable, requiring little intervention, making the process efficient and hygienic.

Rotating pomace irrigator
The rotary pomace irrigator is a piece of equipment used during pumping-over in red winemaking. It is connected to the pump pipe and disperses the juice over the pomace at the top of the vat. Its shape and functions vary according to the equipment manufacturer. The main body is usually made of stainless steel to resist corrosion and for hygienic use. The rotating head is the essential part of the machine, rotating to ensure even distribution of the must over the marc.
The rotation system is most often driven by the pressure of the liquid itself, although it can be motorised in some models.
The liquid is then sprayed through the nozzles or perforations, creating a fine rain that evenly sprays the marc.

Integral pomace irrirgator
This automated pomace irrigator can be used for pumping over. It ensures even wetting of the marc cap, whatever the type, shape or size of the vat.It can be used with a low-flow pump and allows pumping of heavy juices (pulp and pips) without the risk of clogging. It sprays the entire surface of the marc cap, avoiding preferential circuits. This irrigator is programmable with the pump and requires no intervention during the harvest.
