Mast post driver

Fitted with a sliding weight on a vertical mast, this post driver offers robust striking force in all working conditions. It is mainly used on an inter-row tractor, as it is mounted on a chassis with a 3-point linkage. However, this post-driving system presents significant risks of accidents due to its sliding weight system, unlike percussion equipment.

Component parts

Drive for the driving part

Two drive systems are available:
  • Either via the tractor's hydraulic pump.
  • Or by the power take-off (540 rpm), which drives a hydraulic power unit to ensure a constant flow for driving in the stakes.

The weight

The stakes are driven by a weight that slides on a mast. The weight's momentum of around 150 kg enables the head of the post to be driven flat into the hardest soil.

The post clamp

The posts are held in place before and during work by a post clamp. This ensures that the post is held in place and remains plumb. On some tools, the weight cannot be released while the post clamp is open.

Use and settings

Tilt

The mast is tilted mechanically, but a hydraulic option is available for correcting plumb.

Offset

In most cases, the tool is offset mechanically, but a hydraulic system is available as an option.
The hydraulic offset and mast tilt options offer real advantages in terms of time saving and efficiency.

Safety

In terms of safety, these tools must be handled with care, even though most recent equipment is equipped with a mandatory safety system before the weight is lowered.
