Harvest crate
Crate, harvest box, harvest tup, bin or tray - there are many different names for these harvest containers, often attributed to their shape.
Used exclusively for manual harvesting, these crates are now all made of plastic to make them easier to clean, hygienic and transport. They respect the integrity of the harvest, as the grapes are carefully transported and the small volumes prevent the grapes from being piled up and crushed.
In many cases, these containers are stacked on a flatbed trailer or transport vehicle and taken directly to the vat room. This requires a lot more handling, but can be lightened by using a forklift, depending on the containers used.
